Meet The Team

At Edify Retirement, we provide thoughtful, personalized financial guidance to help you make confident decisions about your future. As fiduciary advisors, we put your best interest first. Our approach is collaborative, client-centered, and built around what matters most to you: clarity, confidence, and lasting peace of mind.

Justin McGuffey is an independent financial professional with over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He holds a degree in Business from Miami University and is both an Investment Advisor Representative (IAR) and an Independent Agent (IA), maintaining multiple financial licenses.

Before working directly with individual clients, Justin was an annuity wholesaler, collaborating closely with financial advisors to design retirement income strategies and evaluate product solutions. This experience sharpened his ability to assess complex financial tools, understand advisor best practices, and recognize what truly works for clients. This perspective informs his current advisory work, allowing him to deliver deeper insight to the individuals and families he serves.

Justin specializes in guiding individuals through key life stages, with a strong focus on retirement planning. His approach combines education, personalized strategies, and sound financial advice to help clients make informed decisions and build long-term financial confidence. He is committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of those he serves by providing clarity and direction in an often complex financial landscape.

At Edify, we don’t follow the usual playbook— we customize solutions to fit your needs.

  • Independent Investment Advisor Representatives are fiduciaries, which means they are legally and ethically bound to put clients’ best interests first. Every recommendation is made with the client’s goals— not commissions—in mind.

Unlike advisors at large firms, we don’t sell proprietary products or push incentivized sales. You get objective, unbiased advice and unbiased strategies built around what’s right for you.

  • A fiduciary is legally obligated to put your financial interests first, above their own profits or business interests, which means Investment Adviser Representatives must recommend what’s truly best for you rather than what earns them the most money.

This creates the highest standard of care in the financial industry, requiring complete transparency about fees and conflicts of interest while ensuring all advice is tailored specifically to your financial goals and circumstances. Unlike other financial professionals who only need to meet a “suitability” standard, IARs operating as fiduciaries must provide recommendations that are in your best interest, creating greater accountability and trust in the advisory relationship.

  • Independent IARs are compensated from transparent, fee-based arrangements— typically charging a percentage of assets under management or hourly fees for financial planning services. This fee-based structure aligns our interests with yours; we succeed when your portfolio grows and performs well. Occasionally, when a commission-based product genuinely serves your best interests —such as certain insurance products or specific investment solutions— we may receive commissions, but these instances are fully disclosed and only recommended when they provide the most suitable solution for your particular financial situation.

  • We provide comprehensive financial planning services extending well beyond retirement planning. This includes:

    • investment management and portfolio construction tailored to your risk tolerance and retirement goals

    • tax planning strategies to minimize your tax burden

    • estate planning coordination to ensure your wealth transfers efficiently to your beneficiaries.

    • insurance analysis to protect your assets and income

    • cash flow planning and budgeting assistance

    • education funding strategies for children’s or grandchildren’s college expenses

    • ongoing financial guidance for major life transitions like career changes, divorce, or inheritance.

  • We work with clients who value personalized, objective financial guidance and prefer a long-term relationship with their advisor.

    Our client base includes:

    • pre-retirees seeking comprehensive wealth management

    • mid-career professionals

    • business owners who need sophisticated tax and investment strategies

    • individuals who have accumulated significant assets but want an advisor who isn’t tied to proprietary products or sales quotas.

I tend to attract clients who appreciate transparency in fees, want their advisor to act as a fiduciary, and are looking for holistic financial planning that goes beyond just investment management to include retirement, tax, and estate planning coordination.
